Protect more of the ocean

By advocating for the protection of at least 30% of the ocean by the year 2030.

Outlined as the first wedge, the roadmap calls to protect more of the ocean. To bring ecosystem balance back to the ocean, we must remove human interference from a portion of the waters. Observed within existing marine protected areas (MPAs), when we limit commercial fishing and other destructive practices within the bounds of an MPA, biodiversity, and biomass rush back to the area. In turn, vital ecological processes proceed with less strain, and individuals enter the surrounding, unprotected waters, offsetting the impact on commercial fisheries. By protecting more of our ocean, improved health radiates beyond the protected barriers. This principle materializes in the goal to protect 30% of marine environments by 2030.
