Cristina Mittermeier: “We are not the superior species”

Cristina Mittermeier, or “Mitty” as everyone knows her, exudes a magnetic energy and determination. This brave fighter with deep black eyes, alert and attentive, she is on the front lines of environmental conservation. Born in Mexico City, she grew up in Cuernavaca wondering what lay beyond, in that sea that she contemplated when she went to visit her grandparents in Tampico. Salgari’s readings heightened her imagination and her thirst for knowledge, and as she grew older she knew that it was not enough for her to settle into the traditional role of family life. She graduated from one of the best universities in Mexico in Biochemical Engineering in Marine Sciences, and she kept looking for that “something else” that seemed to be missing, until someone gave her a camera.
